Vashon Municipal Airport (FAA ID 2S1) is a publicly owned, privately maintained airport on Vashon Island. The airport began operations in 1946 and is the only airport on the island, serving both general aviation and life flights. The airport is governed by 3 elected members of the King County Airport District #1 and operated/maintained by Vashon Air Service, and organization made up of hangar owners. The airport is one of the few public airports in Washington with a grass runway, and serves as a key lifeline to the island that is only accessible by ferry.
Vashon Airport sits on 20 acres 1 mile to the northwest of the town of Vashon and has a 2001 x 60 foot grass runway and a 98 foot diameter emergency helipad for use by emergency services.
